Sterling Engineering is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to lead and execute a wide range of field survey projects. This role involves overseeing daily field operations and guiding survey crews to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe data collection.

Responsibilities

Lead field survey crews on projects including topographic, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, construction stakeout, and FEMA Elevation Certification surveys

Operate and maintain advanced survey equipment such as total stations, GPS units, robotic instruments, and 3D scanners

Perform survey calculations using trigonometry, geometry, and algebra to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements

Interpret construction plans, plats, and legal descriptions to support field operations

Prepare and maintain clear, accurate, and detailed field notes and documentation

Troubleshoot field issues and make real-time decisions to keep projects on schedule

Coordinate with clients, project managers, and internal team members to ensure project objectives are met

Enforce company safety standards and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations

Qualification

Required

3-6 years of experience in land surveying or a related utility-based field

Valid driver's license with the ability to travel full-time to project sites

Preferred

NSPS/CST Level II certification

Experience with modern survey technologies, including GPS, LiDAR, UAS, and GIS

Familiarity with CAD software for map and plan preparation
