Assistive Technologist(Adaptive Equipment Supervisor) - Murdoch Developmental Center

The Assistive Technologist will provide engineering, supervisory, and administrative services to support the Adaptive Equipment Shop, focusing on adaptive product design and application for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering, supervisory and administrative services necessary to support the day-to-day operation and facilities of the Adaptive Equipment Shop and technical personnel
Adaptive product design and application
Research and development of promising engineering concepts
Apply engineering principles and state-of-the-art technology to problem-solve barriers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Design responsibilities including wheelchair design and customization, adaptive seating design or modifications, and resident safety equipment
Supervisory activities including scheduling, purchasing, training, safety reviews, performance reviews, and equipment reviews
Collaboration with the campus engineer, technical personnel, design systems and documentation, materials and acquisition management, and various project management activities
Project collaboration with other professional departments and staff such as Medical, Psychology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Direct Care

Required

Bachelor's degree in any field from an appropriately accredited institution
Two years of experience working with assistive technology that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position
Good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry
Documented experience using industrial machinery such as vertical mill, metal turning lathe, drill press, band saw, wire welding, plastic forming equipment and industrial sewing machinery
Skill in the use of hand and power tools due to the fine tolerances needed for adaptive and special protective device fabrication and modification
Basic knowledge of the science of assistive technology; working knowledge of various types of assistive technology, augmentative communication and durable medical equipment
Excellent interpersonal communication skills to collaborate within a team concept from product design through fabrication to meeting end user needs
Work experience in an intellectual and developmental disabilities setting
Documented supervisory/managerial experience
