Responsibilities

Provide technical training, coaching, review assistance and feedback for internal staff and external partners via live case analysis or quality review
Partner with local market sales personnel and relevant internal collaborators. Develop and support strategic business plans by serving as an internal and external advocate. This helps meet our business unit growth and profit goals
Analyze risk and develop rating strategies for employer groups or blocks of business by evaluating pricing tools, claims experience, demographics, market competitiveness, and regulatory requirements, ensuring alignment with internal goals
Provide consultative services to local sales personnel and external customers on rating options, contract terms, and benefit strategies, through discussions, presentations and conference calls. Effectively communicate and negotiate pricing recommendations, rational and impact
Review work performed by others (pre or post release) to authorize deviations from standards and provide recommendations for improvement. Provide appropriate motivation and coaching for learning and development of team members
Collaborate with internal partners to assess customer needs and identify solutions to non-standard requests and problems. Solves moderately complex problems independently
Act as a business lead/subject matter expert for department and segment projects, owning necessary research, data analysis, and development of recommendations. Provide input on data needs going forward to validate the appropriate of the recommendation at a future date

Required

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required
4+ years of underwriting experience
Advanced understanding of products within the business unit

Excellent oral and written communication skills
General math skills
Proven leadership skills
Proven presentation skills
Proven negotiation skills
Must maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while ensuring confidentiality
Travel required (5%), including overnight stays

Preferred

Computer skills and knowledge of business unit applications
Experience in Medium to Large Case Non-Medical Group Underwriting
Industry, market and competitor carrier knowledge
