Responsibilities

Perform academic research under the direction of a faculty member

Assist with data collection (surveys, key informant interviews, focus groups) and literature reviews

Perform data entry, data cleaning, and quality assurance tasks

Assist with basic quantitative and qualitative analysis

Prepare charts and tables

Present their research experience at the LEARN Expo

Submit mid-semester progress report and a final report

Required

Must be an undergraduate student

Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester

Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students

Must meet all other requirements stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP)

Recommendation letter from the faculty mentor with whom the student will be working. Letter must include the following information: Description of faculty research project, Description of student research assistant's contributions to project/list of tasks, Student research assistant learning outcome or skill development as a result of working on this faculty-led project

Proficiency in the use of personal computer workstations with common software applications

Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines

Outstanding customer service skills

Excellent interpersonal relationships and communication skills

Problem analysis and problem-solving skills

Ability to learn and use multiple software programs

Position requires on-campus, face-to-face interactions

Position requires maintaining a regular attendance schedule on campus and in the workplace

Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with the class schedule

Promptly complete all required training

Submit time sheet biweekly

Some evening and weekend work may be required

Position is subject to 10 weeks

Mid-term report and final report must be submitted

Presentation at the LEARN Expo is required
