Tooling Designer – Automation
Sterling Engineering is hiring a Tooling Designer – Automation to support manufacturing operations through the design of tooling, fixtures, gauges, and automation EOAT. This is a hands-on role working closely with production, automation, and external vendors from concept through implementation.
Responsibilities
Design work-holding fixtures, gauges, tooling, and automation end effectors (EOAT)
Troubleshoot tooling and fixturing issues on production equipment
Support automation and manufacturing initiatives from design through launch
Apply DFM / DFC principles to improve cost, quality, and efficiency
Create designs using metal and 3D-printed solutions
Collaborate with vendors to manufacture and integrate tooling
Qualification
Required
Automation experience
5+ years of tooling or mechanical design experience
Associate's degree or equivalent
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Strong CAD skills
Advanced GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, sub-.001" tolerances
Ability to read and interpret engineering and process drawings
Preferred
Bachelor's degree
Creo CAD skills
