Responsibilities
Architect and build a modern enterprise data warehouse from the ground up, including schema design (dimensional/star schemas), normalized/ primarily denormalized modeling, and performance optimization for large-scale data
Own end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines: Ingest, transform, validate, and load data via API calls from multiple sources (restaurant POS platforms, food cost systems, and other cloud-based operational tools)
Develop and maintain executive-level BI dashboards and self-service reporting using cost-effective tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Sigma, open-source Jasper, Power BI, or equivalents)
Evaluate and implement efficient tooling: Prefer open-source or low-cost solutions (e.g., dbt for transformations, native tools, or alternatives to high-cost options like Fivetran)
Build custom scripts (primarily Python), integrations, and additional layers on the data warehouse to support emerging needs such as AI/LLM-based data querying, labor scheduling applications, food cost tools, and menu mix analysis
Ensure high data accuracy, governance, quality, and security; develop data audit mechanisms to validate system alignment and monitor query/report performance
Lead technical projects: Define scope, estimate effort, manage risks, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders (Operations, Finance), and deliver on-time
Collaborate closely with business leaders to translate requirements into technical solutions while maintaining a proactive, responsible, and easy-going approach
Qualification
Required
5–10+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, warehouse architecture, ETL/ELT development, and BI/analytics in enterprise environments (10+ preferred; strong 3–5 year candidates considered if they have delivered full POS-integrated data projects in restaurant/retail)
Expert SQL proficiency, dimensional modeling (star schemas), and complex query optimization on cloud platforms (Snowflake preferred, or comparable modern cloud data warehouses)
Proven experience building ETL/ELT pipelines from API-based sources; strong preference for dbt or similar open-source/low-cost tools
Advanced Python for data transformation, automation, and scripting (JavaScript a plus)
Demonstrated success integrating restaurant POS systems as a primary data source (direct experience with major platforms like Oracle Simphony, Aloha, or transferable equivalents from similar QSR/retail environments required)
Hands-on work with BI/visualization tools for executive-grade dashboards (Tableau, Looker, Sigma, Jasper/open-source, Power BI, etc.)
Ability to independently deliver complete data solutions in restaurant/retail contexts (e.g., tracking price changes, food costs, labor metrics)
Enthusiasm or exposure to emerging technologies like AI/LLM for data interaction
Strong soft skills: Hard-working, highly responsible, proactive in raising issues, excellent at translating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, easy-going personality, and comfortable representing IT at the executive level
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred
Experience customizing open-source tools or other integrations for POS data
Prior work in multi-location QSR/franchise operations
Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments (e.g., Snowflake + Python/SQL Server)
