Transport Engineer Tech I or II - Traffic Operations

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transport Engineer Tech I or II to improve highway conditions and safety. The role involves performing basic to intermediate design work, drafting, and calculations in support of traffic operations and roadway design.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Performs basic design work
Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments
Prepares field notes
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans
Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System
Works on reproduction of plans
Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians
Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features
Performs intermediate design work
Prepares environmental documents
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications
Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings
Writes general notes, specifications and provisions

Required

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Valid US driver's license
Basic roadway design
Intermediate design and hand and computer-aided drafting procedures
Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
Higher mathematics
Interactive graphic and design information systems
Writing and revising standards and procedures
Performing basic design and drafting
Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
Standing-prolonged periods of time
Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
