Government Administration

Responsibilities

Using a data-driven and Safe System approach to find viable safety project by conducting safety screenings and traffic engineering studies
Coordinate with District and local agencies to progress pedestrian and bicycle safety
Assisting in the management of several contracts for regional commissions, Safe Routes to School, consultants, and advocate organizations. This position also acts as a liaison to the Governors Office of Highway Safety and helps manage pedestrian and bicycle task teams
Develop and maintain policy and guidelines, such as the Pedestrian Streetscape Guide
Provides engineering judgement on reviews for engineering analysis, provides responses to comments from the public, and reviews various designs in the Department that have pedestrian and bicycle elements
Attends and reviews road safety audits in the safety program to provide a focus on ADA, bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
Evaluates and proposes new routes the State's bicycle route system and United States Bicycle Routes
Assist in the management of one state safety design contract, which includes coordinating with the districts, Office of Program Delivery, Office of Design Policy, local agencies, and consultants; approving work orders; QA/QC of consultant work
Strive to expand upon individual’s existing knowledge of bicycle and pedestrian with continued education by attending summits, peer exchanges, and participating in research

Required

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an A.B.E.T.-accredited program OR equivalent degree in a related field OR Valid State of Georgia Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification OR Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the State of Georgia and six (6) months of job-related experience
For international degrees: Applicants with a bachelor's degree from an international institution must submit a course-by-course evaluation from GDOT-approved credentialing provider

Preferred

Possesses EIT (certification as a Engineer in Training)
Demonstrated knowledge of safety design requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of interpretation and application of safety countermeasures
Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards and guidelines specifically related to safety
