6+ years expTential Solutions is partnering with a Big 4 consulting firm to add a Backend Developer to their team supporting a major banking and credit organization. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems in a highly regulated financial services environment.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and Node.js
Build and support RESTful (and potentially event-driven) APIs and microservices
Contribute to system architecture and technical design discussions with senior engineers and stakeholders
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established engineering standards
Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog grooming)
Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployments
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability
Ensure applications meet security, compliance, and data protection requirements
Contribute to code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers when appropriate
Qualification
Required
6+ years of professional backend development experience
Strong hands-on experience with Python (e.g., FastAPI, Flask, Django)
Strong hands-on experience with Node.js (e.g., Express, NestJS)
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices
Solid understanding of backend architecture, data structures, and design patterns
Experience working with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or similar)
Familiarity with unit testing and test automation frameworks
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar)
Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging systems (Kafka, SNS/SQS, etc.)
Understanding of secure coding practices and enterprise compliance requirements
Prior experience supporting applications in financial services or regulated industries
