Senior Plumbing Engineer / MEP Design Engineer
Lam+Tea Engineering is seeking a motivated and well-rounded Plumbing Engineer / MEP Design Engineer to join their growing consulting design team. This role focuses on delivering coordinated, high-quality MEP designs across various project types, while managing plumbing-led scopes and collaborating with other disciplines.
Responsibilities
Manage plumbing-led scopes across multiple projects from concept through construction, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment
Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for clients, architects, and project stakeholders on plumbing and MEP coordination matters
Assist Project Managers and Principals with project planning, staffing, fee management, and change management
Track project progress, deliverables, and deadlines; proactively identify risks and propose solutions
Lead internal coordination meetings and contribute to external consultant and client meetings as required
Support proposal development, scope definition, and fee estimates for plumbing and MEP-related work
Lead the design and documentation of plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas, and specialty systems as applicable
Develop plumbing system concepts in alignment with project requirements, codes, and client expectations
Perform plumbing calculations, sizing, fixture counts, and equipment selections
Ensure plumbing designs comply with applicable codes (UPC/IPC, local amendments) and project standards
Prepare and review construction documents, specifications, and technical reports
Coordinate plumbing systems with mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and architectural disciplines
Provide mechanical system support or design assistance (HVAC) based on experience level and project needs
Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings and BIM/Revit workflows
Support integrated MEP design solutions that are constructible, efficient, and code-compliant
Participate in site surveys, field investigations, and construction administration
Collaborate with clients, architects, and consultants throughout the project lifecycle
Assist with responding to RFIs, submittals, and construction-phase questions
Mentor junior designers and contribute to internal QA/QC efforts
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) required or in progress
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in plumbing design within an MEP consulting environment
Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, and design standards
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for MEP design
Experience producing coordinated construction documents
Preferred
Working knowledge of mechanical (HVAC) systems and terminology
Experience supporting or leading plumbing scope on multidisciplinary MEP projects
Professional Engineer (PE) license or path toward licensure
Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient systems
Experience with commercial, residential, healthcare, education, or mixed-use projects
