Student Financial Aid Advisor I - Student Services

Responsibilities
Interpret and apply federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations in the administration of student aid, ensuring strict compliance with Title IV funding requirements and institutional policies
Perform oversight and audits of student financial aid awards, making adjustments as necessary to maintain compliance with cost of attendance (COA) limits, overaward regulations, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), and repeat coursework restrictions
Utilize Banner, Cognos reports, and federal databases (such as NSLDS, COD, FPP) to monitor compliance-related issues, including overawards, Pell Grant lifetime eligibility, and loan aggregates
Identify and escalate compliance risks, discrepancies, or unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor or leadership team
Advise students and families on financial aid eligibility, verification requirements, loan options, and financial literacy while ensuring compliance with Consumer Information Disclosures (i.e. Terms and Conditions), borrower regulations, and professional judgment protocols
Maintain accurate and secure records of student interactions, financial aid decisions, and advising sessions using Salesforce, Dynamic Forms, and other institutional tracking systems, in accordance with FERPA and record retention policies
Represent the Student Financial Aid and Scholarships Office at university and community events, ensuring the dissemination of accurate, compliant, and transparent financial aid information
Conduct quality assurance reviews and assist in the preparation of internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to all federal and state reporting requirements
Stay informed of regulatory changes issued by the Department of Education (ED), National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), and other governing bodies, and participate in ongoing training and professional development
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree plus one year related experience or a combination of education and progressively responsible related experience to equal five years
Must be able to access all federal and state financial aid system websites in order to perform the essential functions of this position
Must not be in default on student loans, which will prevent access to these systems (NSLDS, COD, etc.)
Preferred
Previous experience in Financial Aid Office and general financial aid knowledge
Banner Financial Aid Management System
Experience with university level counseling/advising
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Attention to detail and ability to streamline processes
Ability to prioritize tasks
Fluent Spanish speaker
