Forest Management Technician

The Oregon Department of Forestry is dedicated to protecting and promoting resilient forests that benefit all Oregonians. The Forest Management Technician will assist Forest Health staff in conducting statewide surveys to monitor pest populations and evaluate their impact on non-federal forest lands.

Responsibilities

Assist in monitoring overall forest health conditions in the State on all ownerships
Assist in applied research projects involving both laboratory and field work while retaining and managing Forest Health records
Assist in Data collected from surveys and applied research aids the Department, landowners, and elected officials in developing and implementing management strategies to reduce pest impacts and protect the environment
Assist with the forest health tasks associated with program goals and objectives

Required

Eighteen months of experience working in the field of (insert appropriate field, i.e. reforestation)
Associate Degree in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Forest Recreation, Fire Protection or a related natural resource field of study
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Driver's License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business
Must be able to identify common indicators of tree damage caused by insects, diseases, animals, or environmental factors
Ability to identify trees and shrubs
Basic knowledge of forest pest surveys and forest inventory field procedures are required
Ability to read and interpret maps and aerial photos
Ability to work independently at times with limited supervision
May be in continual travel status throughout the state at times
