Facility Structural Engineer
Pantex Plant is a vital facility supporting national and global security missions. The Facility Structural Engineer will be responsible for overseeing structural systems, ensuring their operability and maintenance, and providing technical solutions to complex engineering problems.

Responsibilities
Coordinate configuration management activities
Assess system health and performance
Provide overall technical responsibility for facility structural operability and maintenance activities
Work with the Configuration Management program for the assigned systems to prepare configuration control/design change packages for tasks
Evaluate the impact of proposed changes and/or modifications to approved safety authorization bases for facilities
Perform troubleshooting and improvement activities
Resolve technical system and facility issues in cooperation with other related disciplines
Provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes and standards
Building evaluations and modifications
Seismic analyses and rehab
Machine installations
Develop structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (concrete, steel, masonry, cold-formed steel, timber)
Structural calculations
Equipment anchorage
Report preparation
Drafting (or oversight of drafting)
Preparation of construction specifications (generally in the form of general notes on the drawings)
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering from an Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
OR a Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA
OR a PhD in Civil/Structural Engineering discipline with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
There is a minimum GPA requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript
Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire
In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709
Medical requirements may apply
U.S. citizenship is a requirement for security clearance applicants
Preferred
Five or more years of experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
Understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment
Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings and requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components
Computer-aided design (CAD) or other 3D modeling experience
Structural Modeling experience with STAAD Pro
Must be able to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management
