Sewing Machine Operator

Martin-Baker America, Inc. is seeking a Sewing Machine Operator responsible for operating various sewing machines to join and reinforce materials used in manufacturing production assemblies. The role involves executing work prioritized by supervisors, maintaining a safe working environment, and training other sewing operators.

Responsibilities

Executes work prioritized by Sewing Supervisor/Assistant Sewing Supervisor
Record all work performed via computer using SAP transactions
Contact supervisor in the event of any discrepancies
Maintain a safe and clean working environment
Clean up work area at end of shift
Attend pertinent training workshops
Receive in-house training in areas of hazard material policies, procedures, and general workplace safety
Required to monitor work and be self-motivated
Ability to read and interpret complicated blueprints, drawings, flowcharts, and build plans
Possess flexibility and the ability to handle multiple tasks independently in an organized manner
Capable of training subordinates in correct sewing techniques, resulting in products that meet or exceed customer contract requirements
Ability to achieve skills essential to complete a "TEST" work order efficiently and effectively without assistance based on criteria set by Sewing Supervisor
Acquire potential skills necessary to operate all sewing related machines including, single needle, double needle, over lock, Adler, post, CNC auto tracker, auto webbing feeder and auto velcro feeder efficiently and effectively
Adheres to applicable Martin Baker America operating procedures and work instructions at all times
Perform all other duties assigned by Sewing Supervisor or Production Supervisor
Involvement in special projects and reports as required
Ability to assist in creating and maintaining build plans

Required

Two to Five years' experience in manufacture sewing industry is required
Ability to work with high degree of creativity and computer skills
Position requires accurate and complete verbal and written communication skills
Position requires the ability to clearly communicate information to subordinates, peer, and superiors
Position requires the ability to operate and use computer and make complete and accurate entries into preformatted screens
Possess general math skills
Ability to read and interpret complicated blueprints, drawings, flowcharts, and build plans
Measure and work to tolerance of +/- 1/16th of an inch
Have ability to make minor adjustments to machines, such as threads per inch
Position requires the ability to display leadership of other personnel not under direct supervision
Position requires a demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently delegate assignments and complete tasks accurately on time
Position requires demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and managers
Position requires a High School diploma or GED
Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and move frequently throughout the facility
Will be required to lift material not exceeding 20 lbs
Occasional local travel may be necessary with this position
