Senior Research Associate - School of Public Health
UTHealth Houston is Texas’ resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and excellence in patient care. The Senior Research Associate will provide project management for research projects of considerable scope and complexity, primarily supporting an ongoing project with ClinGen focused on the clinical relevance of genes and variants for precision medicine and research.

Responsibilities
Performs the duties of a ClinGen Biocurator, Level 2. Utilizing the 2015 American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) guidelines for sequence variant interpretation, the Biocurator will perform variant curations that will be approved by the VCEP and deposited in the ClinVar database. Variants curated by ClinGen Variant Curation Expert Panels have been recognized by the FDA as a source of valid scientific evidence that can support clinical validity
Assists in development of variant curation guidelines for genes within the LCA/eoRD VCEP’s domain following the approved ClinGen protocols
Collaborates extensively with members of the VCEP, clinicians and external experts. Responds to requests by clinicians and community members for variant curation
Assists the VCEP Coordinator in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers, and grant proposals for presentation and publication
Provides project management for a wide variety of gene curation activities in support of research project desired outcomes, budgets, and timelines
Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes
Prepares communications of research results for the public and/or funding organizations
May mentor fellows, graduate students and others as appropriate in support of the University's mission
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in related field with four (4) years of related research experience including significant experience in a project management research role; or Master's degree in related field with two (2) years of related research experience including significant experience in a project management research role; or Doctorate degree
Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects
This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas
Preferred
Evidence of completion of the Level 1 and Level 2 ClinGen Biocuration Training programs
Experience with ClinGen's Variant Curation Interface and additional variant annotation tools
