They are seeking an enthusiastic individual for a full-time internship in their Diagnostic Lab, where the intern will support routine testing procedures and maintain essential laboratory functions. The role involves learning lab safety protocols, preparing samples for testing, and assisting diagnosticians with various tasks.

Responsibilities

Learn, understand, and adhere to all lab safety protocols and company safety policies

Open, sort, and troubleshoot daily mail delivery of samples

Prepare and process roots for various disease screenings

Prepare culture media

Assist diagnosticians with culturing and plating

Prepare and process samples for PCR and ELISA testing

Perform DNA extraction using manual extraction methods

General laboratory maintenance: wash dishes, manage autoclave trash, and regular equipment maintenance

Work closely with lab technicians and regularly communicate with supervisor and diagnostic lab staff

Optional: design and conduct an approved independent project

Participate in Bartlett Tree Research Laboratory outreach events and tours

Attend scheduled intern learning experiences

Qualification

Required

Completed or working towards a 2-4 year degree with a focus in arboriculture, horticulture, plant science, botany, microbiology, or related field

Comfortable performing repetitive tasks

Excels under pressure of a fast-paced, group working environment

Excellent communication skills and attention to detail

Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred

Strong interest in plant pathology, entomology, arboriculture, or ornamental plants

Experience working in any of the following: retail, food service, healthcare, or childcare
