InternStevens Towing Company is seeking a Safety Technician and Tank Cleaner Intern to assist in providing health and safety resources for shipyard personnel. The role involves coordinating safety training, conducting inspections, and maintaining safety records while working in a physically demanding environment.

Responsibilities
Assist in supplying Health and Safety resources for shipyard personnel working in vessel and/or barge repair under the general direction of the company Safety Officers
Assist in various safety training sessions and safety orientation
Review information on upcoming jobs prior to starting work to ready site and make preparations for employees assigned to the job to ensure that work is conducted accurately and safely
Assist in the preparation of written safety and environmental procedures for each project
Coordinate, schedule and conduct environmental, health and inspections, audits, and surveillances as directed by the Safety Officer
Assist in maintaining all required environmental, health and safety records and documentation
Coordinate collection and removal of all HAZMAT
Participate in operating the vacuum truck, setting up and breaking down equipment associated with bilge and tank cleaning
Provide various work in regards to cleanliness, gas free certification, and pumping operations
Follow basic functions to include hose setups, air connections, tank/void cleaning and bilge cleaning/pumping and to include vacuum truck watch
Operate forklifts, man lifts, and similar equipment
Qualification
Required
Safety experience in ship and barge repair
Shipyard competent certifications
Assist in various safety training sessions and safety orientation
Coordinate, schedule and conduct environmental, health inspections, audits, and surveillances as directed by the Safety Officer
Maintain all required environmental, health and safety records and documentation
Driver's License
TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) or the ability to obtain a TWIC
Read, write, and clearly communicate in English
Computer experience necessary (MS Word, Excel, and Access)
Good communication skills
Ability to teach large groups
Ability to interact with various people on many different levels
Common sense and the ability to follow basic functions to include hose setups, air connections, tank/void cleaning and bilge cleaning/pumping and to include vacuum truck watch
Ability to operate forklifts, man lifts, and similar equipment
Preferred
Experience in ship repair
Knowledge of Hazmat
Knowledge of Spanish
30hr OSHA Certification
