Assistant General Counsel
The NC Department of Adult Correction is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property in North Carolina. The Assistant General Counsel provides legal support primarily to the Public Records Manager, reviewing public records requests and assisting with legal processes such as subpoenas and court orders.

Responsibilities
Review and advise on public records requests in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Assist in responding to legal processes, including subpoenas and court orders
Provide legal advice and support to various Department divisions and management
Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Work independently while consulting with the Deputy General Counsel on complex or controversial issues
Prepare reports and maintain communication on assignment status
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor from an appropriately accredited institution
License to practice law by the North Carolina Bar
Strong understanding of the Department's organization, mission, and operational priorities
Ability to interpret and apply laws, constitutional provisions, statutes, regulations, and court decisions accurately
Proficiency in comprehensive legal research using online and traditional resources
Skill in analyzing facts, evidence, and legal documents, and clearly presenting legal interpretations in oral and written form
Capacity to assess complex legal issues and collaborate to develop innovative, practical solutions
