Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of Aristocrat’s patent and design portfolios throughout their entire lifecycle—from invention disclosure through prosecution, enforcement, and maintenance
Lead preparation and prosecution of patent and development applications, with emphasis on the U.S. and Europe
Conduct product clearance and freedom-to-operate assessments, including risk mitigation and design-around strategies
Coordinate competitor IP monitoring, analysis, and enforcement actions, including cease-and-desist correspondence when necessary
Partner with inventors and technical teams to identify, capture, and protect innovations through Aristocrat’s invention disclosure process
Act as a trusted advisor to the business on all patent and IP-related matters
Integrate IP considerations into product, business development, and technology initiatives
Offer advice on open source software application, licensing, and adherence to Aristocrat’s IP and product strategies
Support IP aspects of corporate transactions, commercial partnerships, and strategic collaborations
Participate in IP committee meetings and contribute to ongoing portfolio reviews
Deliver internal training and resources on patent strategy, open source, and innovation guidelines
Provide clear, practical, and business-focused legal advice that balances innovation with risk management

Required

Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school; member in good standing of a U.S. state bar
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, or related field) or Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Minimum 8+ years of patent practice experience in a corporate legal department, law firm, or both
Proven experience managing patent portfolios and providing IP strategic advice in a technical or gaming environment
Understanding of open source software licensing and adherence frameworks
Outstanding analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical, business, and executive teams
Ability to balance multiple priorities, adapt to change, and operate effectively in a fast-paced global organization
Demonstrating dedication to Aristocrat's core values of integrity, innovation, and excellence centered on the player
