Sr Manager Research Strategy & Acceleration
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a Senior Manager for Research Strategy & Acceleration to provide strategic guidance and support for advancing their research mission. This role involves conducting analyses, supporting strategic planning, and developing translational pathways for innovative science to be translated into therapies and clinical programs.

Responsibilities
Drive research acceleration and position programs for commercialization readiness
Provides planning and project management support for the Frontier Programs and other research accelerators to maximize impact and ensure long-term program sustainability
Evaluates potential accelerator programs through analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and other structured analyses to advise program leaders on strategic fit
Conducts diligence (scientific, market, competitive, and policy assessments) to identify translational opportunities
Develops translational and development roadmaps with investigators, defining value-driven inflection points and data package needs
Identifies critical gaps, resources, and partnerships to position programs for handoff to Innovation Ventures for commercialization activities or progression toward clinical implementation
Shares best practices across CHOP’s research community to strengthen translational success
Lead enterprise and program-level research strategy development and planning
Supports a dynamic research strategic planning process at the enterprise, Research Institute, and programmatic levels
Assesses and synthesizes scientific, market, demographic, policy, and competitor trends to inform enterprise and program strategies
Engages Research Institute leadership, department chairs, division chiefs, and faculty in strategy design and execution
Promotes creative and critical thinking to develop compelling, innovative research strategies that align with CHOP’s mission
Prepares executive-level materials, recommendations, and scenario analyses to inform leadership decisions
Ensures alignment of research strategy with clinical, operational, and institutional priorities
Deliver analytical decision support and generate actionable strategic insights
Provides structured analyses (e.g., market sizing, industry benchmarking, competitor assessments, policy impact analyses) to support leadership decision-making
Triages and prioritizes emerging opportunities using data-driven frameworks
Builds and maintains planning databases and analytic tools to ensure integrity, accessibility, and actionable use of information
Develops clear, concise reports and presentations translating complex data into insights for executive stakeholders
Monitors and interprets industry trends, peer institution strategies, and policy shifts to anticipate future opportunities and risks
Qualification
Required
Master's Degree Business Administration, Public Health or other health-related field
Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word (Required proficiency)
Strong knowledge of database structures, management, and data mining (SQL, Access) (Required proficiency)
Intermediate user of geospatial mapping tools (ArcGIS) (Required proficiency)
Demonstrated experience in an environment with a culture of collaboration and consensus driven decision-making. (Required proficiency)
Demonstrated experience in managing a portfolio of projects, including facilitating teams and driving process. (Required proficiency)
Intellectual curiosity and strong critical thinking skills with ability to synthesize disparate sources of data. (Required proficiency)
Outstanding communication skills, including oral, written and presentation. (Required proficiency)
Willingness to advocate for new ideas, coupled with a commitment to measurement and accountability. (Required proficiency)
Strong persuasion and negotiations skills, and the ability to engage, challenge and influence one's thinking to effect change throughout an organization. (Required proficiency)
Experience in managing and developing professional staff, including mentoring and providing constructive feedback. (Required proficiency)
Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; personal and professional integrity above reproach. (Required proficiency)
Preferred
Master's Degree or higher in life sciences, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or a related field
At least four (4) years of experience in healthcare
At least five (5) years in academic research, translational science, clinical research, or related field
demonstrated experience in program development within an academic medical center, scientific nonprofit, biopharmaceutical company, or consulting environment
experience leading or contributing to strategic planning initiatives in complex research or healthcare organizations, such as academic medical centers, scientific nonprofits, biopharmaceutical companies, or consulting firms
