The Program Assistant position supports youth sports participants by providing instruction, ensuring safety, and creating a positive atmosphere.

Responsibilities

Leads and/or assists with the instruction and supervision of all practices. Helps to develop participants’ skill and promote their involvement as part of a class

Ensures the safety and well-being of each child under their supervision and maintains a creative and playful atmosphere for all participants

Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)

Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment

Conveys information on youth programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs

Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants, as well as proactively communicating areas of concern

Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary

Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required

Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps them connect with each other and the Y. Identifies potential volunteers
