SCHEDULING SYSTEMS PROJECT LEADER (OPERATIONS)

Los Angeles Metro is dedicated to providing a world-class transportation system for LA County. The Scheduling Systems Project Leader will manage a work unit responsible for transit service data collection, reporting, and advanced modeling activities, while providing technical leadership and support for scheduling and planning functions.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and manages a work unit and/or large-scale projects in the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of computer application systems for schedule planning, schedule building, and data collection systems
Designs, reviews, and monitors complex computer programs for scheduling and operations planning application systems
Designs data warehousing/data mining business intelligent systems applications
Maintains data collection hardware in working condition
Searches for alternatives in data collection equipment and procedures
Monitors the data collection process to ensure there are no errors
Oversees the development, testing, and implementation of new application systems and enhancement of existing systems
Conducts feasibility studies for scheduling and operations planning computer application systems
Participates in financial committees, project decisions, and budget and specification change orders
Conducts special projects and studies and assists in establishing departmental plans and schedules
Acts as team leader for complex and highly specialized applications
Prepares correspondence and project reports, such as technical overviews, recommendations, and alternatives to business requirements
Supervises, trains, mentors, and motivates assigned staff
Complies with all of Metro safety rules, policies, and procedures
Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

Required

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business, Statistics, or a related field
Five years of relevant experience designing and maintaining complex information systems in a specified application area including project management experience; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment; experience in public transportation system operations particularly scheduling preferred
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
Overtime, on-call, and weekend/holiday work required when necessary
Travel to offsite locations when necessary

Preferred

Experience creating and modifying queries using Structured Query Language
Experience analyzing and troubleshooting data processing streams
Experience creating automated data driven reports such as Power BI or similar systems
Experience gathering requirements for project development
Experience creating software applications in a team environment
