Environmental Engineer V - Dam Safety Program Regulatory and Emergency Act

The State Of Vermont Dept Health is seeking a highly motivated civil or environmental engineer to join their Dam Safety Program. The role involves managing dam safety engineering, regulation, and emergency action planning to ensure public safety and reduce risks associated with dam incidents and failures.

Responsibilities

Development, maintenance, and review of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)
Development of EAP policy
EAP training
Dam hazard potential classification
Permit review, issuance, oversight, and program buildout
Dam safety rule compliance and enforcement
Assistance with dam emergencies
Assistance with dam inspection
Dam operation and maintenance support including flood control dam oversight and operations

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering
Two (2) or more years of experience in a related engineering field
One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer IV
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong technical skills
Written and verbal communication skills
Organizational skills
Ability to identify and implement process improvements

Preferred

Experience or interest in dam safety engineering
Experience or interest in regulation
Experience or interest in Emergency Action Planning
Experience or interest in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for dams
Candidates with the intent to pursue Professional Engineer licensure in the future
