Early Career Structural Engineer
WSP is currently seeking an Early Career Structural Engineer for their Mountain Pacific Transportation Engineering Team in Tacoma, WA. This role involves analysis, design, and assessment of various structural components for infrastructure projects, providing practical solutions under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Responsibilities
Under the guidance of supervising structural engineers, you will start learning how to utilize your theoretical knowledge base to come up with practical solutions to a variety of structural problems
Depending on project needs, you will get involved with creating numerical models, preparing calculations for component design, developing plan sets, preparing quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates, and reviewing submittals
Given the public safety aspect of infrastructure projects, this position requires an individual who is detail-oriented, inquisitive, analytical, thorough, and responsible
It is expected that you will take ownership of the tasks assigned to you for their accurate and efficient completion, while taking the lead on communication with your supervising engineer throughout the process
The quality and timeliness of the work you deliver will determine the progression of assignments from basic to more involved
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet project goals
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to adhere to health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies set by the organization
Preferred
Master's Degree in with an emphasis on Structural Engineering
Familiarity with Earthquake Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Reinforced Concrete Design, Structural Steel Design
Engineer in Training Certification, or scheduled date for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
Prior internship or work experience related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline
Involvement with local professional practice organizations
Familiarity with relevant design codes (e.g., AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Guide Specification for LRFD Seismic Bridge Design, ACI 318, ASCE 7, AISC Steel Manual etc.) and DOT Bridge Design Manuals (e.g., WSDOT BDM, Caltrans SDC)
Familiarity with structural analysis and computer-aided drafting tools
