Responsibilities
Lead project delivery and system architecture for backend services, while mentoring junior engineers and promoting engineering excellence across the team
Design and implement scalable, low-latency services in Java and Python, powering core advertising capabilities such as auction processing, targeting, and performance
Develop robust and well-documented RESTful APIs to support campaign management, reporting, and integration with advertiser-facing tools
Build resilient systems with strong observability, demonstrating automated testing, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to build systems that support real-time and asynchronous workflows
Drive technical design reviews, conduct code reviews, and lead initiatives to improve platform reliability, performance, and scalability
Take ownership of project estimation and delivery, partnering with Team Members to deliver high-impact features that enhance the advertiser and customer experience on the Chewy Ads platform
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with a strong focus on backend development using modern languages and frameworks including Java, Python and SpringBoot
Proven experience building scalable, highly available systems
Experience integrating AI/ML models working alongside Data Science
Ninja coding and debugging skills
Passion for data-driven development, observability
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
Solid understanding of CS fundamentals: object-oriented design, algorithms, and problem-solving
Excellent verbal and written communication
Preferred
Experience in Ad Tech and/or e-commerce
Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies
Familiarity with Test driven development
Familiarity with AWS cloud services, including serverless computing, data processing, and storage solutions
