Educational Advocate (PRN) - Domestic Violence Center

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing a safe, structured, educational environment in a therapeutic setting
This position will help plan and facilitate educational activities for youth and families residing at the Domestic Violence Center, Children’s Center or Domestic Violence Housing Program
In addition, this position will assist in providing support and advocacy to clients as needed
Coordinates with the school of origin of emergency shelter residents to obtain transportation, or at a minimum, the client’s homework to ensure that the youth has the opportunity to stay caught up in school
Organizes and supervises educational field trips
Collaborates with schools to best serve clients
Documents client information in Progress Notes
Completes the Learning Center summary on each youth following discharge and puts in the client's file
Facilitates lesson plans developed by the Curriculum Specialist
Provides support in youth development activities
Coordinates client/volunteer interaction and activities
Assures that the Learning Center is clean, orderly, and ready for clients
Serves as the liaison between Synergy’s Emergency Shelter’s and the School District of residents as needed
Communicates concerns regarding volunteers to appropriate staff
Participation in the Performance and Quality Improvement activity is required by each employee
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Associates degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
The employee in this position must hold a valid Teaching Certificate, Medication Technician Certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and a valid Class E Drivers license
The employee in this position must have the ability to transport up to fifteen (15) passengers in a van
Must have the ability to type and perform data entry/10 key, and use computer software, including Windows, Word for Windows, WP6.0, WP5.1, EXCEL, and the internet
Must be knowledgeable with the McKinney-Vento Act
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must pass a background check and Family Care Safety Registry screening, fingerprint screen, drug screen
Must have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
Position requires CPR, Med Tech Certification and Chauffeur's License within 30 days from the date of hire
Preferred
BS in Education or Social Service related field preferred
