Responsibilities
Works with end users and department heads to identify and document required network service levels
Works to meet service level agreements with end users
Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots campus network and wireless infrastructure hardware, software, peripheral devices, cabling, and appropriate product
Maintains department servers and associated operating systems and software
Assists with deploying, monitoring, and configuring, firewall and intrusion detection systems
Implements and maintains security policies
Monitors and tests network performance and provides statistics and reports on the overall campus network connectivity performance
Receives and responds to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding network & telecommunication connectivity problems
Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users,and recommends and implements corrective hardware and software solutions
Recommends, schedules, and performs network and wireless improvements, upgrades, and repairs using appropriate Change Management procedures
Supports development and implementation of current and new infrastructure and technical operative installations on campus
Conducts research on network and wireless products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network enhancement and development efforts
Evaluates and recommends purchases of networking and wireless hardware and software products
Practices network asset management procedures, including maintenance of network component inventory
Prepares, maintains, and adheres to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring network data
Acts as liaison with, and provides training and support to, help desk support staff on network issues
Prepares and ensures accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for network installation, including data, voice, and video systems
Aids in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintain current knowledge of plan executables
Understands, designs, and applies IP addressing schemas
Responsible for designing, implementing, automating and maintaining the networking aspects of software applications, particularly in areas such as online gaming, distributed systems, or enterprise applications
Understands and/or is responsible for working on software development, network automation and combines hands-on programming experience to improve scalability, reliability, and security across enterprise and cloud networks
Understands computer network concepts and has proficiency in network protocols, programming languages, such as Python, Go, Bash, C++ ; develops custom applications for network monitoring, telemetry, and analytics
Applies programmability solutions using API's, SDKs and controllers (e.g. REST, NETCONF, gRPC)
Applies knowledge to build and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and able to use Ansible, Terraform, or Pulumi
Integrates network services with CI/CD pipelines to enable automated deployment and validation
Creates and maintains version controlled network code using Git
Troubleshoots network issues applying programmatic debugging and data analysis techniques
Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the networking aspects of software applications, particularly in areas such as online gaming, distributed systems, or enterprise applications
Performs work on protocols, data transmission, and synchronization to ensure efficient and reliable communication between devices or servers
Optimizes network performance, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and collaborating with other developers to integrate network features into software products
Responds to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans
Performs server and security audits
Performs system backups and recovery
Installs network data and telecommunications cabling drops as needed
Provides guidance to junior members of the team as required

Assists Infrastructure Operations Manager by providing backup/relief support for all positions as necessary
Must be available on an on-call basis
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems
Complies with all State and University policies

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility
Hands-on experience with SDN, NFV, and automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Python scripting)
Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
