EHR Project Director
Virtelligence is seeking an experienced and strategic Epic EHR Director to lead the successful implementation and optimization of the Epic electronic health record system across a large public health system. This leadership role is critical for ensuring clinical, operational, and compliance excellence through effective EHR usage and requires exceptional leadership and technical acumen.
Responsibilities
Provide executive-level leadership for the implementation, optimization, and support of Epic EHR across all sites and departments
Lead strategic planning, program governance, resource allocation, and performance monitoring of Epic initiatives
Direct large-scale projects across multiple Epic modules (e.g., Ambulatory, Inpatient, Cadence, Willow, Beacon, Tapestry, etc.)
Collaborate with operational, clinical, HR, and IT leaders to align EHR functionality with patient care, compliance, and workforce goals
Oversee the Epic application and support teams, including hiring, mentoring, training, and performance management
Lead stakeholder engagement, communication planning, and change management to ensure user adoption and satisfaction
Drive Epic reporting and analytics strategy in partnership with business intelligence teams (e.g., Clarity, Caboodle, Slicer Dicer)
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health IT regulations, including HIPAA, interoperability, and meaningful use
Manage vendor relationships, service-level agreements, and contract deliverables related to Epic systems and services
Support organizational readiness for upgrades, new module rollouts, and emerging Epic technologies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Nursing, Business Administration, or related field
7+ years of progressive project or program management experience in healthcare IT
5+ years of Epic EHR implementation or optimization experience
Proven success leading complex, multi-site Epic projects in clinical or operational settings
Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, and other project management/reporting platforms
In-depth knowledge of Epic implementation phases: discovery, workflow design, build, testing, training, go-live, optimization
Experience managing large cross-functional teams and external vendor relationships
Demonstrated expertise in change management, stakeholder engagement, and communications strategy
Strong documentation, presentation, and leadership skills
Ability to work effectively in a unionized, public-sector, and multi-cultural environment
Preferred
Epic Certification in at least one major module (e.g., Epic Ambulatory, Inpatient, Cadence, etc.)
Master's degree in Health Administration, Informatics, or a related discipline
Clinical experience or clinical management background (e.g., RN, NP, MD, PA)
Familiarity with Epic data models and reporting tools such as Reporting Workbench, Slicer Dicer, Clarity, and Caboodle (Cogito)
Experience in a public health system, academic medical center, or large integrated delivery network
Strong understanding of interoperability frameworks, HL7, FHIR, and regulatory compliance
Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to influence and inspire teams
Proven success in building consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
Deep knowledge of healthcare operations, revenue cycle, and clinical workflows
Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and financial management skills
Familiarity with HR workflows and ERP integration within Epic or third-party systems
Commitment to health equity, access, and public service delivery
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into operational and clinical impact
