Wildland Firefighter (Forest-Fire Operations Risk Management)

Responsibilities
Serves as the Risk Management Specialist for the Forest and independently provides risk management program leadership and direction in all resource programs
Coordinates with the Forest Fire Staff Officer, District Rangers, the Regional Safety and Health Officer, and Forest Leadership Team in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and guidelines for risk management in resource programs
Analyzes the program to provide for processes procedures, and equipment consistent with preventing accidents and loss of life in the resource management programs
Plans and coordinates risk management studies to determine the degree of hazards and accidents caused by project-related activities to determine basic causes, critical situations, information needs and performance
Analyzes and reviews forest and regional accidents/fatality reports, injuries, and illnesses resulting from resource operations
May serve as a team member on Accident/Incident, Serious Injury, and Fatality Investigation Teams and as a Board of Review team member when requested
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Must be 18 years of age
This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing
Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable)
Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required
GW-11: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GW-09 in the Federal service
Examples of specialized experience include: Managed and/or assisted with a component of a wildland fire and/or wildland fire safety program; Provided technical guidance to implement risk management plans, policies, programs and/or guidelines for wildland fire safety; Assisted in conducting fire safety training for a unit as member of a wildland firefighting team
