Wildland Firefighter (Fire Prevention and Mitigation Specialist)
The USDA Forest Service is seeking a Wildland Firefighter (Fire Prevention and Mitigation Specialist) to provide management, technical expertise, oversight, and policy development for fire mitigation and education programs. The role involves representing the Forest Service at various levels and coordinating efforts to mitigate risks from wildland fire and hazardous fuels.

Responsibilities
Represents the Forest Service at local, state and inter-agency level on wildland fire mitigation and related activities
Reviews programs and plans to ensure that fire mitigation principles, practices and policies are incorporated into state and local land management programs
Analyzes models and identifies major causes of wildland fire and ensures that these causes are effectively addressed in the appropriate wildland fire mitigation programs and the fire management plan
Assists Forests and Districts with wildland fire education programs
Coordinates the identification and mitigation of wildland urban interface issues and risks to homeowners and communities from wildland fire and hazardous fuels
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Must be 18 years of age
This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result
Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required
Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable)
Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GW-9 grade level; OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.)
For the GW-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GW-11 in the Federal service
