Assistant Director (Fire and Aviation Management Operations)
The USDA Forest Service is seeking an Assistant Director for Fire and Aviation Management Operations. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing activities in wildland fire protection systems within the Pacific Northwest Region.

Responsibilities
Perform administrative and human resources management functions for the unit such as providing advice, counsel or instruction on both administrative and work matters
Establish and communicate guidelines and performance requirements to employees including conducting formal performance reviews and identifying developmental and training needs of employees
Plan the work to be accomplished by the unit by assigning work to employees and establishing production or quality standards for the unit’s work
Serve as principal assistant to the director for region-wide activities in wildland fire protection systems (e.g. fire detection, readiness, preparation, coordination, incident organization)
Direct the formulation of standards, methods, and guides for a highly complex fire operations program
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served
Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Must be 18 years of age
This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing
Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable
Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required
Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable)
Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled
