IT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
Higgs Fletcher & Mack LLP, one of San Diego’s oldest and most prestigious law firms, seeks an experienced Systems Administrator to join the Firm’s Information Technology group. The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, support, and ongoing optimization of the firm’s core IT infrastructure and enterprise systems, ensuring system reliability, security, and performance across the firm.

Responsibilities
Administer, support, and maintain the firm’s infrastructure, including:
Active Directory services, including Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
VMware vSphere and virtual servers
Omnissa Horizon virtual desktop environments
Azure Entra ID and Microsoft 365 services
Microsoft Intune device and policy management
Teams Phone and related telephony services
Storage platforms including Nimble SAN and NAS
Security solutions including CrowdStrike, DUO, Cisco Umbrella, and Mimecast
Firewalls, switches, and core networking services
Manage and maintain Active Directory objects, Group Policies, authentication workflows, and directory integrations with Microsoft 365 and Azure Entra ID, including SSO and DUO integrations
Support and maintain core law firm applications
Provide support across all tiers for system and application issues, including assisting with end user issues when needed, handling complex escalations from the service desk, and providing after-hours or emergency support as required
Perform advanced end user troubleshooting and assist with basic end user issues as needed, including diagnosing and resolving operating system, virtual desktop, application, and profile issues, and installing, configuring, or troubleshooting end user hardware and peripheral devices when required
Coordinate with software and hardware vendors and managed service providers (MSPs) as needed for escalated system, infrastructure, or application-related issues, including opening and tracking support cases, providing technical details, and supporting troubleshooting and resolution efforts
Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity and proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact users
Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance of servers, applications, and infrastructure components following documented procedures and best practices
Assist with infrastructure projects including planning, implementation, testing, and documentation
Maintain accurate technical documentation including system configurations, procedures, and recovery processes
Support security initiatives including system hardening, patching, access controls, and compliance with firm policies and client confidentiality requirements
Collaborate with the IT Director on backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning and testing
Provide technical guidance and limited training to IT staff and end users when appropriate
Participate in continuous improvement efforts to optimize performance, reliability, and user experience
Qualification
Required
5+ years of progressive experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or senior Tier 3 desktop support with direct responsibility for enterprise systems
Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Windows server and desktop environments, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
Demonstrated experience managing Active Directory services, including user and computer objects, Group Policy, authentication workflows, and integrations with Microsoft 365 and Azure Entra ID
Practical experience supporting virtualization platforms, such as VMware vSphere and virtual server environments
Experience supporting Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Intune, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and identity integrations
Working knowledge of networking concepts and infrastructure, including LAN/WAN fundamentals, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and switches
Experience supporting endpoint management and security tools, such as Intune, MFA solutions, endpoint protection, and email security platforms
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system and application issues across multiple platforms and escalate or resolve issues independently
Ability to learn and support new technologies quickly and adapt to changing systems and business requirements
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and projects simultaneously
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with users, IT staff, and firm leadership
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment preferred
Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft (Azure or Microsoft 365), VMware, or security-related certifications are a plus
