Responsibilities
Follows department procedures related to cleaning and operations to ensure a safe and clean environment in all areas
Responsible for reporting to work on time, properly completing the time card, in uniform, and ready to work, as observed by supervisor
Sets up equipment and ready for use with necessary supplies and is in assigned area within ten (10) minutes after beginning of shift, as observed by supervisor
Inspects assigned area and immediately corrects observed discrepancies, such as spills on floor or trash cans overflowing, as observed by supervisor
Completes all cleaning assignments within pre-determined time limits as instructed by supervisor
Reports all uncompleted assignments and gives to supervisor one (1) hour prior to end of shift, as observed by supervisor
Performs various trash removal duties to maintain cleanliness and appearance
Insures that all trash bins are cleaned regularly with no more than one discrepancy per week as observed by supervisor
Relines trash, medical waste and recycling containers with appropriate bags with no more than four (4) discrepancies per year as observed by supervisor
Adheres to established pick-up times for trash, recycling, medical waste with no more than one (1) discrepancy per week as observed by supervisor
Collects recycling materials (cardboard, fiber, bottles/cans, plastic) from all storage locations (elevator landing, utility rooms, etc) and transports it to appropriate containers in basement
Assists in breaking down cardboard boxes to facilitate removal from units
Removes medical waste containers (and sharps containers) from storage areas on units, and transports containers to medical waste holding area in basement
Follows department policies regarding handling, labeling and weighing of all medical waste containers
Removes used light bulbs from storage areas on patient units, transports to appropriate storage room in basement, and properly places lights into correct containers
Pulls trash from chute rooms in basement, transports to trash dock, and dumps waste into compactor
Keeps trash chute rooms clean and inside and outside of dock clean on a daily basis
Assists department as required to sort through waste to locate inappropriate items, (radioactive waste in ordinary waste, medical waste in ordinary trash, and ordinary trash in recycling) to prevent contamination, as observed by supervisor
Operates electric tow tractors and scooters ensuring safe operation at all times
Operates electric tow tractors used in the transportation of either trash, RMW, or recycling, observing vehicle safety procedures at all times as observed by supervisor
Inspects electric tractors prior to use, observing the department vehicle maintenance procedures as observed by supervisor
Works towards team objectives to provide quality service throughout the hospital and initiates activities and behaviors in support of YNHH's mission and values

Qualification
Required
Six months demonstrated customer service related work experience required
Must successfully complete a training program provided by the Environmental Services Department and achieve competence in all duties
Excellent Customer Service and communication skills
Ability to read, write and perform basic math
Ability to work independently
Able to perform as part of the patient care team
Preferred
High School Diploma or GED preferred
