Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive content audits using Microsoft Excel and Word to inventory, assess, and categorize existing web pages
Rewrite and streamline content in alignment with approved wireframes, information architecture, and Drupal page templates
Apply plain-language principles in accordance with the Maryland Digital Playbook and federal plain-language standards
Ensure content compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508, including proper heading structure, link text, tables, and document formatting
Develop SEO-optimized content elements, including page titles, meta descriptions, headings (H1–H6), internal links, and image alt text
Perform keyword research and apply on-page SEO techniques aligned with modern search engine best practices
Support taxonomy and metadata development, including tagging strategies to improve site search and content discoverability
Convert application forms into accessible, fillable formats using Adobe Acrobat, Smartsheet, and Google Workspace
Contribute to development of the Website Style Guide and Content Governance documentation
Participate in final QA reviews to validate content accuracy, formatting, accessibility, and SEO readiness

Required

Minimum three (3) years of experience in web content editing, technical writing, or content strategy
Hands-on experience with content management systems (Drupal preferred)
Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) and SEO fundamentals
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Adobe Acrobat
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
