Vice President of Finance
South Carolina Student Loan Corporation is hiring a Vice President of Finance. The role is responsible for overseeing all fiscal operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting, while also leading financial planning and team development.
Responsibilities
Responsible for supervision of all areas which involve accounting for student loans originated by the Corporation and in some cases the Authority, as well as any additional business ventures of the Corporation
Responsible for overall status of operations of accounting functions including: internal control and procedural issues; personnel issues and evaluations; budgetary concerns; and financing concerns
Responsible for monitoring and projecting short- and long-term cash flows to make loans; pay operating expenses; pay debt service requirements and make appropriate investments
Responsible for the coordination of the Corporation’s and the Authority’s financial and compliance audits to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements; federal reports; and documents required in issuing bonds
Direct short-term and long-range financial planning and budget development aligned with the CFO’s direction
Work with the CFO to understand and maintain company culture and values, develop a strong team to assist the CFO in meeting corporate objectives, align responsibilities, and gain a deeper understanding of financial and regulatory matters
Oversee the preparation and presentation of quarterly financial reports, forecasts, and budget data to the company’s Board of Directors
Collaborate with all team members to achieve overall operating goals and manage their individual annual budgets
Create real-time reporting, forecasting, and actionable KPIs and similar dashboards, with the utilization of advanced financial technologies and modeling that have led to clear value creation
Oversee all sides of accounting operations, including payables, receivables, payroll, and tax preparation
Spearhead strategies to steer the company’s future in a positive direction
Drive the company’s corporate financial resources to surpass customer satisfaction, retention benchmarks, and company goals
Drive systematic/upstream thinking across the organization
Oversee corporate financial efforts while implementing better business practices
Develop direct reports and identify succession planning in key positions to ensure their direct reports are being developed for the future
Coach employees to optimize their capabilities
Complete performance reviews on direct reports and monitor reviews across areas of responsibility for consistency, accuracy, and transparency
Assess and implement improved processes and new technologies while collaborating with management regarding the implementation of these improvements
Formulate business strategies, financial plans, and execution plans for the business, and be responsible for the analysis of the business’ P&L to include tracking, trending, and communicating with the CFO and senior management to identify any operational deficiencies and ensure the company’s financial goals are achieved
Understand the historical cash flow impacts and project future cash flow related to various regulations and regulatory support mechanisms
Collaborate with other lines of business to drive organizational efficiencies and alignment and to develop its infrastructure for future growth
Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes
Understand the future of the industry and work with senior team members to analyze new products and services in order to better support clients and ensure smooth delivery of innovative solutions
Conduct proactive analysis to identify improvement opportunities and manage productivity metrics and efficiencies
Foster a success-oriented, accountable, and transparent environment within the company
Supervise the accounting staff, duties include: hiring, monitoring attendance and work performance, setting and monitoring performance goals, conducting annual performance reviews and making recommendations for merit increases
Provide mentoring and guidance to direct reports on regular basis
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree(s) in Accounting or Finance
Eight+ years of progressively responsible experience in the field of accounting/finance
Prior supervisory experience
Must have extensive knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of accounting /finance or related field
Working knowledge of cash flow and financial projections and budget analysis

Expert level use of Microsoft Office Suite and related software
Preferred
Graduate degree in Finance or Accounting
CPA
Prior experience with accounting systems such as Blackbaud
