Principal Engineer

City of Miami Beach is seeking a Professional Civil Engineer to work in the planning, design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of various public works projects. The role involves overseeing the design and compliance of engineering projects, supervising construction inspections, and making recommendations for improvements to city facilities.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the design and development of construction plans and specifications for roads, bridges, water supply systems, street lights, street parking, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management systems, and other public works facilities
Reviews field surveys to develop information required for design and construction of public works projects
Reviews plans for public works projects for compliance with standards
Reviews engineering reports, basis of design reports, and regulatory compliance filings; ensures that reports are detailed, methodical, and provide clear logic for engineering designs and decisions
Makes recommendations for upgrades and improvements to city facilities
Supervises the preparation of cost estimates for public works projects
Develops engineering procedures
Supervises the inspection of various public works construction projects
Performs related work as required
Performs the duties of a Project Engineer, when required
Develops maintenance of traffic plans

Required

Communicates clearly, concisely, and comprehensibly in both written and verbal format
Currently registered as a Professional Engineer by the State of Florida
Capable of signing and sealing engineering drawings and documents in accordance with the rules of the Florida Board of Professional Engineers and Florida Statute 61G15-23
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public via the telephone and personal contact
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine
Ability to stand, walk, move, or kneel may be required to perform duties
Physical capability to effectively use field inspection instruments including, but not limited to: cameras, levels, measuring tapes, survey tools, measuring rods, measuring wheels, and paper, bound, or electronic inspection forms/books
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required
Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
Performs related work as required
Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach
Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City's strategic plan
