Responsibilities
Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
Support the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
Collaborate with the retail operations team to analyze store performance, margins, inventory management, and cost control
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis, providing insights into financial performance
Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Help with the preparation and coordination of external audits and provide necessary documentation to auditors
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures to enhance operational efficiency
Act as a key point of contact for internal teams and external vendors regarding financial inquiries
Assist in mentoring and developing junior accounting staff
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in the retail industry
Strong understanding of GAAP and retail-specific accounting practices (e.g., inventory accounting, sales reporting)
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar systems)
Solid understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting processes
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
Advanced proficiency in Excel and other financial reporting tools
Preferred
Experience working in a multi-location retail environment
Knowledge of retail metrics such as gross margin, inventory turnover, and sales trends
Previous experience with retail point-of-sale (POS) systems
