Systems Programmer I/II
Harry Reid International Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the Systems Programmer I/II position. The role focuses on the installation, monitoring, maintenance, and modification of computer system software to ensure optimal performance of IT systems within the County's computing environment.

Responsibilities
Installs, configures and modifies large scale computer operating systems, utility programs, data base management systems, application development systems, telecommunications systems, and third- party application systems
Performs assembler and higher language programming to support inter-data base, inter-system and inter-computer interfaces
Analyzes and solves day-to-day terminal and network problems reported by users; uses network commands and software analysis tools to solve the problems
Modifies, tests and implements changes to County communications software to improve performance and to accommodate changes
Coordinates with applications programming staff to determine modifications necessary to systems software, tables and parameter lists to support the installation of new applications
Installs, tests and implements vendor supplied modifications to existing software
Evaluates, tests and recommends hardware and software to meet ongoing County computing requirements
Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified programs; designs input and output forms and documents
Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, as needed, for customers, other agencies and information systems personnel
Maintains records and written documentation of systems installations, modifications, and security
Maintains current knowledge of technology and new computer customer applications
Monitors system performance related data on a daily basis and modifies appropriate system tuning parameters to correct and prevent problems
Confers with and instructs applications programmers, computer operators and customer department staff in mainframe, mid-range and personal computer systems
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, Mathematics, or a field related to the work
Two (2) years of full-time professional experience in applications or systems programming
Two (2) years of full-time professional level experience in the installation and maintenance of operating system software for large-scale computers
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination
Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment
Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone
