Business Development Specialist

New North, Inc. is a regional economic development corporation advancing prosperity across Northeast Wisconsin. The Business Development Specialist will support business development and corporate attraction efforts, providing project coordination, research, partner engagement, and marketing support to advance inclusive economic development initiatives across the region.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and prepare high‑quality RFI/RFP responses by gathering regional data, site information, and partner inputs
Support lead generation, outreach, CRM/project pipeline management, and site selector/company prospect engagement, including site visit coordination and information packets
Use workforce and economic data platforms (e.g., Emsi Lightcast) to support project analysis
Assist in implementing strategies that support diverse and underrepresented business owners through research, outreach, and coordination with community and ethnic business partners
Help facilitate collaborations that expand resources and improve outcomes for small and diverse businesses
Support coordination of NEW Launch Alliance programming, including connecting startups to resources, assisting with pitch events, entrepreneurial initiatives, and maintaining ecosystem metrics
Conduct research on companies, industries, workforce trends, economic indicators, and real estate to support business recruitment/retention
Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and talking points for leadership and partner engagement
Build and maintain relationships with economic development partners, municipalities, developers, and business leaders
Represent the organization professionally at meetings, events, and partner convenings
Contribute to marketing collateral, digital content, and communications for business attraction and entrepreneurship initiatives
Assist with logistics for conferences, business visits, trade shows, and regional promotional events

Required

2 years of related work experience
Strong writing and communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional documents and communicate with business and government stakeholders
Analytical mindset with ability to interpret data, conduct research, and generate insights
Proficiency with Microsoft 365; current or developing familiarity with online platforms like Constant Contact and Canva, along with comfort learning CRM systems and research/data tools
Valid driver's license and good driving record
Customer‑focused mindset with ability to build relationships and represent the organization professionally
Support for diverse entrepreneurs by increasing their access to mentors, financial resources and business growth tools
Utilize experience with digital communication and social media
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail
Ability to deliver timely and positive results
Standard office flexible environment; regional travel required as needed
Occasional evening or weekend events may be required

Preferred

Bachelor's degree preferred
An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered
