Fish and Wildlife Technician 1
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is dedicated to environmental protection and conservation efforts. They are seeking a Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 to assist with various fisheries management activities, including surveys, lab work, and public engagement.

Responsibilities
Assist with stream and lake surveys including but not limited to stream and boat electro-fishing, seining, gill netting, trap netting and trawling
Work will also include fixing and repairing equipment and nets
Work with the public and fishing clinics and fairs and sport shows
Lab work including but not limited to preparing specimens for disease and contaminant evaluation as well as preparing scale, otoliths and spines for aging
Office work includes but not limited to entering data into computers and onto data forms, proof reading and filing
Public fishing rights stream posting along with posting of other fisheries signs and information along streams and at DEC fishing parking areas and boat launch sites
Assist fish hatcheries with egg collections, fin clipping and stocking
Qualification
Required
30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic; marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain
Must be able to work in remote areas
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
Travel may be required
Overnight travel may be required
Weekends and holidays may be required
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment
