Survey Tecnician
USAJOBS is seeking a Survey Technician to join the Bureau of Land Management in Anchorage, AK. The role involves recording and operating survey data, performing cadastral surveys, and assisting in fieldwork that may involve extensive travel to remote areas of Alaska.

Responsibilities
Record survey data, to include corner evidence, survey measurement data, and original corner descriptions
Operate survey equipment in order to perform cadastral surveys
Serve as an instrument person on a variety of surveys
Prepare or review the preparation of field notes, random lined diagrams, and computations to determine whether closures are within prescribed lines of accuracy
Assist in corner calculations and monumentation and recording of corner positions

You cannot hold an active real estate license: nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands

You may be required to carry bear repellent spray in the performance of your duties
GS-04 - You must possess six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience
General experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of a Surveying Technician
Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service
Examples of specialized experience include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments
Education: Have successfully completed two (2) years of study postsecondary education (above high school) which includes at least 12 semester hours of courses in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education
GS-05- Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service
Specialized experience is technical work which provided the knowledge and skills needed for cadastral surveying
Examples include work such as: work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments, and/or serve as a crew member and occasionally crew lead for specific projects
Education: Have successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social)
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement
Physical Demands: Work is logistically and physically challenging. It involves bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous, and densely vegetated while carrying equipment up to 50 lbs. It involves long hours, averaging 10 hours per day for 6 days a week
Work Environment: While in the field will be subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or dangerous animals. May work in rain, snow, and rain while working in bear habitat
