Trial Attorney
The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Central District of California is seeking a full-time Trial Attorney for its trial unit in Riverside, California. This role involves representing individuals charged with federal crimes, advocating for their constitutional rights, and handling all stages of federal criminal trial matters.
Responsibilities
Appearing on behalf of clients in court hearings and other related proceedings in Riverside and Los Angeles
Visiting clients in jail
Drafting motions, briefs, and legal memoranda
Collaborating with investigators, paralegals, and support staff
Handling all stages of federal criminal trial matters
Occasionally assigned cases involving appeals after conviction and post-conviction matters
Qualification
Required
Graduated from an accredited law school
Members in good standing of the California Bar
Demonstrated commitment to indigent criminal defense and/or public interest law
Superior oral and written communication skills
Excellent research skills
Ability to work well in teams
United States citizens or permanent residents seeking citizenship
Preferred
At least three years of experience in federal criminal law
Federal judicial clerkship experience
