Executive Director, WV Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The West Virginia Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WVCDHH) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead the organization. The role involves administration, strategic direction, and advocacy for the deaf and hard of hearing community in West Virginia, requiring strong leadership and community engagement skills.
Responsibilities
Administer the agency in accordance with legislative mandates, state policies, and regulations
Prepare, oversee, and manage the agency’s annual budget
Conduct and/or participate in awareness workshops, sign language classes, and public presentations
Supervise, mentor, and direct Commission staff
Serve as the primary liaison to the Commission board and carry out duties assigned by the board
Testify before the West Virginia Legislature and other regulatory bodies as needed
Represent the agency in statewide initiatives, stakeholder meetings, and community partnerships
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Four years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid professional experience in a related field
Preferred
Master's degree in Public Administration, Deaf Education, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field
Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modes used by Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals
Experience working within state government, disability services, or advocacy organizations
Experience managing grants, federal funding, or multi-source budgets
Experience collaborating with community stakeholders including schools, agencies, and advocacy groups
Knowledge of the West Virginia Code pertaining to disability rights, accessibility, and state agency operations
