Billing Manager

Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day billing and accounts receivable operations, ensuring timely and accurate claim submission through month-end close
Step in hands-on as needed during high-volume periods or staffing gaps
Monitor A/R aging, collections activity, and follow-up processes to maximize cash flow
Establish and maintain billing policies, procedures, and internal controls
Manage payer contracts, including fee schedules, authorization rules, and reimbursement terms
Maintain contract documentation and ensure alignment with financial systems and reporting
Support rate updates and ongoing payer communications related to reimbursement changes
Oversee denial analysis, root-cause identification, and corrective action planning
Prepare and track appeals related to authorization, medical necessity, and documentation
Identify denial trends and collaborate cross-functionally to prevent recurrence
Ensure billing and contracting practices align with federal, state, and payer regulations
Stay current on behavioral health billing requirements and regulatory changes
Support internal and external audits and maintain required documentation
Supervise, train, and coach billing staff to ensure consistent performance and compliance
Establish efficient workflows and support professional development within the team
Track and report key revenue cycle metrics (days in A/R, collection rates, denial trends)
Prepare regular A/R and revenue reports for finance leadership
Support forecasting and cash flow planning initiatives
Oversee billing systems and EHR functionality related to claims and reporting
Partner with internal technical teams on system updates, enhancements, and issue resolution
Train staff on payer updates, system changes, and process improvements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, healthcare administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience in behavioral health billing and revenue cycle management
Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and payer-specific billing requirements
Experience managing denials, appeals, and payer communications
Advanced Excel and reporting skills
Preferred
Prior supervisory or management experience
Experience supporting payer contracts and reimbursement models
Familiarity with behavioral health EHR and billing platforms
