TTU Research Scientist - WoF Development
The College of Health and Human Sciences at Texas Tech University is seeking a Research Scientist for the National Wind Institute. This role involves contributing to research and service, enhancing severe weather prediction capabilities, and implementing a real-time forecasting system in collaboration with various partners.

Responsibilities
Contributes to the university's mission through research and service
Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations
Work with a group established to substantially enhance the 0-6hr prediction of severe Texas flooding and other types of high-impact weather events through a Warn-on-Forecast strategy
Implement and maintain a real-time Warn-on-Forecast System capability in Texas (WoFS; similar to the same system designed at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)
Close collaboration with several State of Texas and National Weather Service partners and some associated travel
Qualification
Required
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held
Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a researcher
Should have a record of activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of research
This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience
Experience running convection-allowing numerical weather prediction models
Cloud-based and/or Linux computing and programming experience
Ability to maintain a continuous real-time weather forecasting system
Works well within a team environment
Preferred
Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering, or Computer Sciences
