Lunar Science Data Analyst

The University of Colorado Boulder is home to the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, which is dedicated to advancing scientific discovery in space sciences. The Science Data Analyst will support the Lunar-VISE mission by developing and validating calibration methodologies for the LV-CIRiS instrument, collaborating with mission scientists and engineers to ensure the scientific integrity of data products.

Responsibilities

Analyze ground calibration and performance data for the LV-CIRiS instrument
Evaluate instrument behavior and performance using laboratory and test datasets
Support validation activities using models of infrared emission spectra of analog samples
Develop, implement, and test algorithms for image calibration and derived data products
Validate calibration procedures using test data and modeled spectra
Document calibration methodologies, assumptions, and results
Participate in weekly meetings with the Lunar-VISE mission team and LASP Data Systems
Coordinate with scientists, engineers, and data systems staff to ensure pipeline readiness and data usability
Contribute to mission deliverables related to calibration and data processing
Other duties as assigned

Required

PhD in planetary science or a closely related field
Experience with scientific data analysis and algorithm development
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary mission team
Experience with thermal infrared imaging and spectroscopy for lunar science
Radiometric calibration procedures
Programming in Python or similar languages

Preferred

Experience with LV-CIRiS (or L-CIRiS) calibration and ground test data
Familiarity with infrared spectroscopy, radiometric calibration, or planetary remote sensing
Experience validating data products using modeled or laboratory reference spectra
