Confidential is a large non-profit company in central New Jersey seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to help carry out its mission through development and related activities. This role involves preparing financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, and overseeing accounting staff while ensuring compliance with GAAP and other financial standards.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial statements in compliance with funding sources and GAAP

Maintain the general ledger and oversee accounting staff

Prepare the annual budget and biannual financial projections, including Payroll, Operating expenses, and Revenue, supporting schedules for internal and funding sources (DOE, DDD, and County)

Implement and maintain adequate internal controls to safeguard company assets

Coordinate with external auditors during financial audits

Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and payroll functions

Ensure tax compliance, prepare annual tax return 990

Supervise, train, and support the accounting staff

Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in diversified industries

At least 2 years in a supervisory role

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards

Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, including strong use and reliance on Excel and Pivot tables

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

CPA or CMA certification

Non-profit experience
