Automotive Mechanic Intern (OA GS 1/26)
The State of Missouri is seeking an Automotive Mechanic Intern to join their Fleet Management Program. The role involves providing automotive repairs, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring outstanding customer service in a challenging team environment.

Responsibilities
Operates testing equipment to diagnosis mechanical, electrical, cooling, heating, air conditioning, and hydraulic system problems
Repairs, replaces, and maintains engines, transmissions, pumps, starters, valves, gaskets, rings, seals electrical systems components, brakes, ball joints, wheel bearings, mufflers and exhaust systems, shock absorbers, struts, air conditioners, tires, and related equipment
Performs preventive maintenance services to vehicles; checks and changes fluids and filters; rotate tires; adjusts and replaces belts, hoses, and valves; Inspect and repair fuel injection systems; and other related work
Performs periodic inspections of motor vehicles; may perform state mandated safety inspections
Interacts with work release offenders from Department of Corrections
Maintains records of completed work orders, to include services and repairs to vehicles, and supplies/equipment ordered and used
Test drives vehicles to ensure problems are resolved
Prepares vehicles with necessary sanding, taping, and masking for bodywork
Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management
Cooperates and assists other personnel in the painting and prepping of vehicles
Removes all previous paint coats and layers using appropriate chemicals and solvents; prepares surfaces for new paint application using manual and power sanding tools
Mixes paint to match manufacturer’s color specification; apply paint to car exteriors using spray gun
Repairs or replaces damaged fenders, panels, bumpers, and other vehicle body parts using air hammers, hand tools, and welding equipment

Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic processes, practices, methods, and equipment of the automotive technician's trade
Intermediate knowledge of repair and replacement methods, tools and equipment used in motor vehicle body shops
Intermediate knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of motor vehicles
Intermediate knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the automotive technician's trade
Skill in the use of computerized automotive system diagnostic tools and repair manuals such as AllData, Indentifix, Michel, Motors, and Chilton
Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment required for the maintenance and repairs of motor vehicles
Successful background check results are required for employment in this position
Authorization to work in the United States is a prerequisite of employment
