Nuclear Simulator Software Engineer (Associate, Mid or Senior Level)

The role involves designing, testing, and implementing software, as well as interfacing with engineering staff and maintaining simulator performance.

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision or instruction, performs software and hardware work on the simulator to provide simulator fidelity in support of nuclear training programs and NRC simulator acceptance
Designs, tests and implements codes for new or existing software/hardware installation under direct supervision/instruction
Repairs simulator deficiencies and improves the simulator performance as needed
Works with the neutronics and thermo hydraulics software as well as the modeling software of the plant systems
Acts as the code and system administrator for simulator software
Interface with plant engineering on design change needs, plant computer systems issues and schedule of maintenance and upgrades
Implements and maintains structured software design and develop process which includes software configuration, model verification, validation testing, technical procedures and software documentation
Interfaces with company and vendor engineering staff to obtain necessary design data for simulator models
Acts as training contact for simulator software issues, modifications and maintenance
Coordinates and performs software and hardware work on the simulator to provide simulator fidelity in support of nuclear training programs and NRC simulator acceptance
Designs, tests and implements code for new software/hardware installation
Serves as the subject matter expert for company and vendor engineering staff to obtain necessary design data for simulator models
Serves as point of contact for simulator software issues, modifications and maintenance
Responsible for providing technical expertise and instruction to lower level position

Required

0 - 2 years experience in Engineering or IT knowledge of plant systems, design and operation
Knowledge of computer systems hardware/software, client/server architecture
Knowledge of Windows based operating systems, Sun Solaris and HP VMS
Knowledge of computer programming languages, Fortran, C++, Basic and other programming languages in a real-time simulation environment
Knowledge of the simulator executive and software architecture
Knowledge of computer interfaces, I/O, network and serial communications
Knowledge of stimulation, emulation and hybrid technologies in simulation
Ability to read/write and interpret protocols to interface new simulator design changes
Knowledge of analog/digital electronics, components, design, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, repairs, testing and troubleshooting problems to the solution stage
Knowledge of embedded software used in microprocessor based equipment
Ability to analyze and apply logical processes and knowledge to perform integrated system troubleshooting
Ability to setup and configure computer equipment, use test equipment, install, remove electronic components, terminate connections, solder cable and components, cut and fabricate assemblies, and modify control boards
Knowledge of power system operations, plant computer systems and instrumentation
Knowledge and maintenance of electrical equipment, UPS and power supplies
Ability to perform engineering calculations
Strong oral, written and interpersonal communications skills, and team player
2 - 3+ years of relevant experience in Engineering or IT knowledge of plant systems, design and operation
5 - 6+ years of relevant experience in Engineering or IT knowledge of plant systems, design and operation
In depth knowledge of computer systems hardware/software, client/server architecture
In depth knowledge of Windows based operating systems, Sun Solaris and HP VMS
