Senior Controls Engineer

Responsibilities

Lead the design and programming of machine controls for BEUMER high-speed sortation systems
Architect scalable and modular PLC and HMI solutions tailored to customer specifications
Oversee hardware selection, I/O mapping, and control logic development across multiple platforms
Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership throughout project lifecycles
Conduct system emulation and validation testing to ensure performance and reliability
Manage on-site commissioning and troubleshoot complex system behaviors
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, standards, and training materials
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to R&D efforts
Interface directly with clients to ensure technical alignment and project success

Required

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
10+ years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in the material handling or automation industry
Proven track record of leading complex automation projects from concept to commissioning
Advanced proficiency in programming Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs
Expertise in SCADA systems, especially Ignition platform development and integration
Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, ProfiNet etc.)
Skilled in using engineering tools for simulation, diagnostics, and project management
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and mentor team members
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally up to 30% for project execution

Preferred

Experience with safety systems, motion control, and robotic integration is a plus
